Everything is an orchid,

That day at dawn the flowers bloomed out of control. They found her on the north-most shore. Her fins were torn and the priest said he knew she came from God.
In the chapel beneath the bones of St Thomas there was a cage where we left her. I watched from between two boards of the west wall as she gasped through her gills and mouth. Without the sea she suffocated in the sand.
Last night I dreamt that she swam home. She said “everything is an orchid, but I am shafts of light.”
